This magnolia grows and spreads to have a fairly rounded crown and it is the perfect choice for the smaller garden.

Magnolia Full Eclipse is a Gresham hybrid variety of Magnolia × soulangeana; the Japanese or Saucer Magnolia. The hybrid Magnolias were developed for their larger blooms and their later blooming time, which avoids spring frosts. Full Eclipse has slender upright (tulip) blooms, fuschia (red-purple) at the base, graduating to white at the tips. Flowers are 10cm to 20cm tall. The tree is a columnar, upright grower, expanding out to 5 to 8 metres in width. This variety is deciduous, dropping its leaves in winter. The flowers are scented, and attractive to bees and butterflies. This is a variety with a very traditional colour and form to the flowers. This is quite a small tree so would be suitable for a small garden.

This is a most unusual form of Magnolia. The tree has a neat, compact habit, and deep burgundy flowers with a strong tulip shape. The tree is ideal for a small garden and the flowers make a really striking statement on unclothed branches in winter or early spring. This variety would be ideally placed against light background that contrasts strongly against the colour of the blooms, to show them at their best. As with all of our other vaieties, Magnolia 'Genie' would make a fine statement tree in a location that can be viewed through a window during the colder months. The colour of the blooms in this variety is particularly stable, compared to some other burgundy forms. The leaves are small, and a rich dark green. This variety was bred by New Zealand breeder, Vance Hooper, over a period of 15 years using lines of Magnolia soulangeana and Magnolia liliiflora.

This syringa is the perfect choice for a sensory garden as it features highly-fragrant flowers that intermittently last from spring to early autumn. The flowers open from dark-purple buds and the petals are purple-pink, providing a colourful show. Panicles of flowers sit amongst mid-green, wavy leaves and come from purple stems. This is a great choice for attracting wildlife to your garden as the butterflies and bees are lured in by the sweet scent of the flowers. This hardy shrub will eventually form a neat mound and it looks beautiful in a mixed bed. We think this is one of the best syringas around and it looks great when planted alongside another prolific flowerer like the Fuchsia ‘Mrs Popple’.
