Magnolia Full Eclipse is a Gresham hybrid variety of Magnolia × soulangeana; the Japanese or Saucer Magnolia. The hybrid Magnolias were developed for their larger blooms and their later blooming time, which avoids spring frosts.
Full Eclipse has slender upright (tulip) blooms, fuschia (red-purple) at the base, graduating to white at the tips. Flowers are 10cm to 20cm tall. The tree is a columnar, upright grower, expanding out to 5 to 8 metres in width. This variety is deciduous, dropping its leaves in winter. The flowers are scented, and attractive to bees and butterflies.
This is a variety with a very traditional colour and form to the flowers. This is quite a small tree so would be suitable for a small garden.
