Buddleja - Butterfly Bushes
These delightful shrubs get their common name of ‘butterfly bush’ due to the fact that the flower spikes are irresistible to butterflies – as well as a whole other host of wildlife. The flower spikes are densely packed with tiny flower heads and the flowers have a distinctively sweet scent; many people plant buddleja bushes in a sensory garden – often near a seating area – so that their fragrance can be enjoyed. Buddleja bushes offer months of floral interest as they usually flower from July to September.
The bushes themselves come in a range of shapes and sizes. If you are short of space then you may want to consider planting a 'buzz' variety as these remain relatively compact and they can even be kept in a pot.
