The ‘Black Knight’ butterfly bush is an extremely popular choice as it produces the most wonderful display of deep purple flowers in summer. The delicate flowers are densely packed on the flower spikes and the deep purple petals have yellow centres. The narrow leaves are deep green in colour and have slivery undersides to them; the foliage makes the perfect foil for the sweetly scented flowers, and the leaves turn to yellow come autumn. These bushes are so popular with gardeners because of their great appeal to wildlife, and butterflies in particular favor these bushes due to the sweet scent of the flowers. The ‘Black Knight’ looks particularly effective when planted alongside lighter coloured buddleias so that the colours can truly stand out against each other.
