Euonymus japonicus Green Spire
Green Rocket Spindle
Common Name: Green Rocket Spindle Latin Name: Euonymus japonicus 'Green Spire' Soil: Any well-drained soil Position: Full sun or partial shade Hardiness: Fully hardy Eventual height/spread: 2.5m/1m Special features: A narrow and vibrant evergreen. This Euonymus goes by both names of 'Green Spire' and 'Green Rocket', but both names allude to the structure of this evergreen spindle; this plant is upright in habit and, when planted in rows, makes a fantastic hedge. The ovate leaves are bright green when they first emerge and later mature to a darker green colour, so the upright stalks hold darker leaves at the bottom and brighter ones at the top, which adds interest. This is a great choice for adding structure to the back of a border and it works really well with another colourful evergreen, like the Choisya ternata 'Sundance'.
