Ornamental trees are a wide-ranging and highly diverse collection of trees, and they are broadly defined as trees that do not have the primary purpose of bearing fruit. In fact, ornamental trees are so wide-ranging that the exact number of species is not known, but it is estimated that there are over 100,000 different species of non-fruiting trees.
In fact, there are so many different types of trees that the total number of trees collectively accounts for around a quarter of all plant species. It is thought that trees have existed on the earth for around 370 million years, and that over time they evolved to get their distinctively long trunk to compete for sunlight.
Trees have also been a pivotal factor in the survival of humans; not only from their ability to filter our air, but also for their other uses, like for burning for fire wood or for making hunting tools out of. For the average gardener today however, trees are often planted for much more aesthetic reasons.
Here, you'll find a wide selection of ornamental trees for sale.

Prunus Kiku
Shidare Zakura
Prunus 'Kiku-Shidare Zakura' is a compact and highly attractive tree. The ‘Cheals Weeping’ is perfect for a small garden and it boasts a profuse display of double pink flowers. This is ideal for restricted spaces as it is one of the smallest flowering cherry trees available: you can even keep it in a large pot, if you don’t have the room to plant it. In spring, this outstanding tree bursts to life: new foliage shoots through and the leaves are a shimmering bronze colour. At the same time, the ‘Cheals Weeping’ puts on a stunning floral display. The spring flowers are rose-pink with a double petal formation and they cover the tree. In fact, the pendulous branches become difficult to see as they are often masked in a blanket of vivid flowers during this season. As the leaves mature, they turn deep green and hold their colour over summer. Come autumn, the tree produces an exuberantly colourful display of autumnal orange and bronze before the leaves fall. The structure of this tree gives winter interest as the pendulous branches gracefully arch downwards and they look beautiful when topped with snow. An ideal choice for year-round interest. This flowering cherry tree is so wonderfully compact that it is suitable for planting in a range of situations: when planted in pairs, the Kiku Shidare Zakura’ looks great on either side of a path and it also makes a worthy lawn specimen. You can even plant this tree in a large pot and sit it on a sunny patio. With this being a small tree, it also makes a great gift. A best seller of ours, and for good reason, too. Photinia Red Robin
Red Robin Tree
Photinia fraseri 'Red Robin' offers year round interest with its vivid red leaves. In spring it has further interest with clusters of white flowers. A fantastic screening tree, hedge or ornamental specimen. If you want unusual foliage, the 'Red Robin' is the perfect choice. The elliptic leaves are finely serrated at their margins and fresh foliage shoots through as a brilliant red colour. The leaves mature to a dark green, but as new foliage continues to emerge red you get a real contrast of colours over the spring period. Mid-spring also sees the arrival of clusters of pretty white flowers, which add further interest. Come autumn, the leaves mature to a bronzed green, which adds great interest over the winter months. This is a deservedly popular variety and it is largely planted for its versatility. You can plant the 'Red Robin' at the back of a border or you can use it as a screening tree. It can cope with hard pruning, so, when several are planted in a row, you get an informal hedge. You can also clip the 'Red Robin' into a particular shape. Hamamelis mollis can be pruned to shape, and used as a hedge, giving it a wide range of uses in garden design. This shrub requires little work to keep it in good condition, so would be very suitable for a low maintenance garden. It prefers and acid or neutral soil and is hardy in most parts of the UK, down to -10°C to -15°C. It grows to 2.5m-4m tall and wide in about 10 to 20 years, and tolerates full sun or partial shade.
