Chamaecyparis is a deservedly popular variety of evergreen trees that have a multitude of uses: they can be grown as lone specimens; the taller varieties can be planted in rows as hedges; they can be planted to give winter interest when other varieties have lost their leaves for winter and they can also be planted for structure at the back of a rockery bed.
Most varieties grow to have a columnar habit when mature and the branches are packed with sprays of foliage. When mature, small and globose cones appear which adds further interest.
