The Euonymus alatus 'Compactus' is one of the best shrubs for autumn colour. The ovate leaves produce a breathtaking autumnal display of vivid scarlet and deep purple; a truly magnificent sight. This shrub also offers interest in early winter when its reddish purple fruits burst open to reveal bright orange seeds. For the rest of the year this shrub has glossy green leaves which gently arch and curl at their tips. Another feature of this compact shrub is its bark; the bark develops prominent corky ridges which are revealed in winter after the leaves fall.
