Mahonia x media 'Winter Sun' is a superb shrub with a more compact habit of growth than some other Mahonias. It bears fine flourishing golden racemes of flowers in winter that are held nearly upright. The foliage sprays are rich green and jagged. This plant has a strong character and, even in the quiet summer months, its strong lines are an attractive feature against all the gentler foliaged summer shrubs.
