Common Name: Red Bordeaux Fig Tree
Latin Name: Ficus carica 'Rouge de Bordeaux'
Soil: Tolerant of most soils
Position: Full sun
Fruit picking time: September
Fruit colour: Red-purple skin and strawberry-coloured flesh.
The fruits of this variety of fig are of excellent quality and they are great for eating fresh or cooking up into a jam or preserve. The rounded figs have a dark purple skin and when you cut into them you can see the most juicy and vivid strawberry-coloured flesh which has a sweet and tasty flavour. In order to get the best fruits possible, plant this tree in a sunny position – ideally against a south facing wall. The foliage of this tree also adds interest as the large cut leaves are mid-green with white veins, making them the perfect foil for the colourful fruits.
