Delphinium 'Pacific Giants Astolat' is a striking and tall perennial that brings a majestic presence to garden borders and cottage gardens. Part of the renowned Pacific Giants series, this cultivar is celebrated for its impressive spires of large, showy flowers that come in a captivating blend of pink, lavender, and mauve hues. The blooms are densely packed along the sturdy flower spikes, rising above a mound of deeply lobed, dark green foliage, creating a stunning vertical accent in the garden from early to mid-summer.
'Pacific Giants Astolat' typically grows to a height of 1.2-1.5 metres (4-5 feet), making it an excellent choice for the back of borders where it can add height and drama. It thrives in well-drained, fertile soils and prefers a position in full sun to partial shade. This cultivar is hardy in the UK to RHS hardiness rating H7, meaning it can withstand the coldest British winters, down to around -20°C (-4°F). Given its height, 'Astolat' may require staking to support its flower spikes, especially in windy locations. Regular watering is important, particularly during dry spells, and deadheading spent flowers can encourage a second flush of blooms later in the season. This delphinium is not only prized for its ornamental value but also for its ability to attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, making it a fantastic choice for adding both beauty and ecological value to your garden.
