Delphinium 'Magic Fountains Lavender' is a stunning and compact perennial that brings a touch of elegance and height to garden borders and cottage gardens. Part of the Magic Fountains series, this cultivar is particularly known for its tall, sturdy spires of soft lavender-blue flowers, which rise above lush, deeply lobed green foliage. The blooms typically appear in early to mid-summer, creating a striking vertical accent in the garden. The flower spikes are densely packed with semi-double flowers, and their soft lavender hue is highlighted by a central white "bee" (the small, contrasting spot in the middle of each flower), adding to the plant’s visual appeal.
'Magic Fountains Lavender' typically grows to a height of 75-90 cm (30-36 inches), making it a more compact option compared to traditional delphiniums, which can grow much taller. This makes it ideal for smaller gardens or for use in the middle of a border. It thrives in well-drained, fertile soils and prefers a position in full sun to partial shade. 'Magic Fountains Lavender' is hardy in the UK to RHS hardiness rating H6, meaning it can withstand the coldest of British winters, down to around -20°C (-4°F). Regular watering, particularly during dry spells, and staking to support the flower spikes may be necessary. Deadheading spent blooms can encourage a second flush of flowers later in the season. 'Magic Fountains Lavender' is a favourite among gardeners not only for its beauty but also for its ability to attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, making it a valuable addition to any wildlife-friendly garden.
