This bold and beautiful tree features broadly heart-shaped leaves that have a purpley bronze tint when young, and mature to a steady green colour by summer. As autumn approaches, the leaves turn to blistering shades of orange and red before falling. The tree itself grows to be tall and sturdy with a rounded-conical crown. One of the best features of this tree comes on a windy day in autumn when the leaves are stirred up by the wind; the falling leaves release a burnt sugar smell that resembles candy floss, and this smell is amplified when the leaves are crushed - a truly wonderful sensory experience.
