This rounded shrub has tiny leaves that are curiously mottled pink and purple with touches of white on occasion. Close up, the leaves can look muddled. At a short distance, the colours meld, creating a rich pinkish plum effect, which glows when caught by the sun. This deciduous shrub has little bell-shaped yellow flowers in spring, red berries in September and bright red autumnal tints.
