Dense colourful fast growing evergreen shrub with bright, shiny, very prickly holly-like, dark green leaves. New foliage tinged red turning green with age. Clothed in masses of rich orange flowers May to June, followed by edible blue barberries which are excellent in jams and preserves. Occasional flowers in autumn in mild weather. Shade tolerant.
