The ‘Maria’ is a lively and vivid variety of barberry which features small rounded leaves that are densely packed onto the pillar-like framework. New foliage shoots through red, and then turns to yellow-green, then finally bright orange-red in autumn. This deciduous shrub is perfect for adding a vibrant splash of colour to a bed, border, or rockery and it works particularly well when planted alongside a darker variety of barberry like the ‘Helmond Pillar’.
