If you want a bold splash of colour in a sunny bed or border, then the 'Garnet' is a fantastic choice. The leaves of this deciduous shrub are the same colour of a garnet stone and they hold their deep red-purple colour throughout spring and summer. The foliage really fires up come autumn when the leaves turn to striking shades of scarlet before falling. The leaves are deeply dissected and look feathery, which adds a wonderfully soft appearance to this compact shrub.
Once mature, this Japanese maple will have a rounded habit and is looks beautiful when planted alongside another acer, like the classic Acer palmatum var. dissectum, as the contrasting shades of foliage work as the perfect foil for each other.
