A sturdy shrub with small, rounded, rather leathery leaves which are smaller than most Escallonias. The clusters of flowers are low key but pretty; pink when in bud, and opening pinkish white. They are sweetly scented and come from mid to late summer. Escallonias are very tolerant of sea winds and coastal sites. They are also excellent for hedges which can be close cut to ensure that they are compact and dense.
