Sweet Chestnut trees are one of the most iconic parkland trees in Britain and, despite popular misconceptions, these trees are not actually native to the UK. Although they are native to south Europe, they are often considered as 'honorary natives' in Britain as they have been grown here for such a long time. These trees were originally planted for their fruits and for their timber, nowadays they are also planted for their great ornamental value. They grow to be strong and majestic trees that will become a real focal point of your garden and will provide fruits for many years to come. The fruits are encased in a finely spiked 'hedgehog-like' shell and can be roasted or added to dishes like stuffing (after soaking).
