This is a really distinctive fern as some of the uniquely shaped fronds resemble holly leaves; the pinnate fronds are bright green and leathery to the touch, making this plant a vibrant addition to the garden. Deep black stems have an upright habit and gently arch at their tips. With this being a semi-evergreen it holds its fronds in most winters, giving you year-round interest in all but the harshest of winters.
The 'Cyrtomium fortunei' is a shade-loving plant and it works well as part of a woodland themed border; if you want a planting partner then the Athyrium Okanum also thrives in the shade and the two varieties of fern offer different textures and colours, making your garden more diverse.
