Juglans Plovdivski
Plovdivski Walnut Tree
Common Name: Plovdivski Walnut Latin Name: Juglans regia 'Plovdivski' Soil: Moderately fertile, well-drained Position: Full sun Hardiness: Half-hardy, shelter from frosts Fruit picking time: Autumn Fruit size/colour: Large-sized/Golden-brown The 'Plovsovski' is a Bulgarian variety which is often grown for timber, as well as its wonderfully large nuts. Although this is a fairly light cropper, the nuts that it does produce have a wonderful flavour; this is certainly a case of quality over quantity. 'Plovdivski' ripens early and so it is suitable for northern or high-altitude locations. This tree is also blight resistant which is another added benefit. The slender, spreading branches are almost pendulous at their tips and hold fairly large mid-green leaves.
