The ‘Nigra’ is a large evergreen tree which features dark green pine needles that appear in pairs. When the tree is more mature, ovoid shaped pine cones appear and these are nestled amongst the pine needles. The pine cones often remain on the tree for several years before falling. The tree grows to have an irregular and rather dense crown with age, and it holds the majority of its branches at the top of the tree, leaving quite a long clear trunk. This tree grows to be fairly large, and it should be planted in a position that will give it the space it needs to thrive. You can plant this long-lasting tree as a garden focal point, and it will soon grow to become a great shade tree that can be enjoyed for many years to come.
