Damsons are certainly unusual fruits that deserve wider planting: they produce plum-like acidic fruits that are perfect for both desert and culinary uses from late August to early October. Damson trees enjoy a sunny position in the garden and they benefit from protection from cold winds at they often flower early – although this is not always necessary. Another great benefit of planting a damson is the fact that they do not benefit from pruning once mature so they are a true low-maintenance fruiting tree. Damsons will grow successfully in most soil types and situations.
