Cranberries are noticeably acidic fruits which can vary from bright to dark red. The fruits are prized for their ability to fight urinary infections and also to prevent stomach ulcers. Cranberries have a rather tart taste when they are fresh, but you can do many things with cranberry fruits, including: adding them to your cereal; making cranberry flapjacks; freezing them and using them in smoothies or boiling them up into a preserve to be enjoyed with meat.
The cranberry plant itself loves a peat, bog like environment and when this is replicated with the condition that the soil has a low ph level (or planted in a large pot or tub with ericatiuos compost) they should grow successfully. The cranberry fruits are ready from late September in warmer British climates to mid-October in colder, more northern areas. Cranberries are also often noted for their many health benefits.
