Amelanchier trees - also known as ‘Juneberry’, ‘serviceberry’ or ‘snowy mespilus’ - are striking trees that are prized for their pretty spring flowers and autumn foliage. These delightful trees hold the desirable trait of being suitable for the smaller garden as well as holding several seasons of changing interest. In spring, white or pink star-shaped flowers appear all over the tree and they are surrounded by coppery young leaves; by summer, the flowers have transformed into fruits and these are popular with wildlife. In autumn, the leaves put on a show again and burst to life with bright and vibrant shades of orange and red.
Amelanchier trees do well in most fertile soil types, but will do particularly well in slightly more acidic soil and in a sunny position.
