Wollemia nobilis or the Wollemi Pine as it is more commonly known as is one of the oldest and rarest plants in the whole world. Only discovered in 1994 this tree belongs to the 200 million year old Araucariacea family, from the same time that dinosaurs walked the earth.
Every Wollemi Pine order comes complete with a certificate of Authenicity, an aftercare booklet and a sachet of Rootgrow’s specially formulated, friendly fungus to mix in with the soil when planting.
Characteristics
A coniferous tree with attractive, unusual dark green foliage and unique chocolate brown bark which appears to bubble. Once mature male and female cones can be produced by the same tree on the tips of separate branches. From trials that have been conducted around the world, we know the Wollemi Pine can survive temperatures of -12°C but it would be advisable to choose a place that is sheltered from cold winds to plant your tree. To help protect its growing tips through winter the tree produces attractive waxy coatings called 'Polar Caps'.
