Winter Nellis is a small pear with a yellow-green skin which is lightly russet dotted. The flesh is firm but fine -a little gritty near the core - sweet, and juicy, and a good rich flavour. It is useful for cooking, preserving and a very good fresh eating pear, very productive and reliable late ripener which stores well. Growth is slender and arching with heavy crops. To guarantee cross pollination plant in a sunny, open site with another tree from the same flowering group (e.g. 'Beth').
