Special features: An exceptionally hardy tree, with large leaves with grey undersides.
A very tough, fast growing tree ideal for cold and wet locations, the grey alder has matt, veined leaves that are broadly conical with toothy edges and dull grey on their undersides. In autumn, the leaves turn yellow. Yellow catkins are produced in early spring. It has a rather slender, pyramidal habit and it is often found growing beside rivers and streams, although it can tolerate drier sites.Non-evergreen.
This Alder Tree is supplied bare rooted suitable for planting from November until March or in a 10 litre container suitable for planting all year round. The total height of this half standard tree is approximately 1.8-2.2m (6-7ft).
Our bare rooted trees are hand lifted from our nursery on the day or day before despatch. There will be no soil around the roots but they are covered with a bag to prevent them drying out. If you are unable to plant the trees immediately there is no need to panic. The trees are completely dormant this time of year, which means as long as the roots are kept out of the frost and well wrapped up no harm will come to them, although the sooner you can get them planted in the ground the better.
