A very tough, fast growing tree ideal for cold and wet locations, the grey alder has matt, veined leaves that are broadly conical with toothy edges and dull grey on their undersides. In autumn, the leaves turn yellow. Yellow catkins are produced in early spring, which is perhaps the only time most people notice the tree. It has a rather slender, pyramidal habit and it is often found growing beside rivers and streams, although it can tolerate drier sites.Non-evergreen.
This is a feathered tree; the total height from the ground is approximately 1.8-2.2m in a 10 litre container.
